Oyster reefs closed Sunday reopen to tonging March 21

BILOXI, Miss. – Those oysters reefs that were closed on Sunday due to excessive rainfall, will reopen to the harvest of oysters for tonging only at legal sunrise, Friday,  March 21, 2014, officials with the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources said.

This applies to the following areas:

Area II “C” Conditionally Approved Waters – and its subdivisions of II “E,” II “F” and II “G” – It includes southern portions of the Pass Christian and Henderson Point reefs, Square Handkerchief Reef and northern portions of the Pass Marianne and Telegraph reefs.

All other areas will remain closed to the harvest of oysters. All other oyster harvest rules and regulations will remain in effect.

This order is in accordance with the Mississippi Commission on Marine Resources Title 22, Part 1 and the “Order Opening the 2013-2014 Limited Mississippi Oyster Season in Certain Waters Classified as Approved or Conditionally Approved by the Mississippi Commission on Marine Resources and Placing Certain Restrictions on Oyster Harvesting Activities.”
