All licenses may be purchased at the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources. Recreational saltwater fishing licenses may be purchased at most Wal-Mart, Kmart, sporting goods stores, bait shops and fishing camps. Recreational licenses can be purchased at these coastal locations. A saltwater fishing license is required to fish south of Highway 90. Above Highway 90 and below I-10 either a saltwater or freshwater license will suffice, and above I-10 a freshwater license is required. Persons under the age of 16 are exempt. Effective July 1, 2010, residents 65 years of age or older will be required to purchase a lifetime recreational saltwater fishing license. License fee: $5 plus $2.29 processing and agent fees. All commercial licenses expire April 30, including Seafood Dealer and Seafood Processor licenses. All recreational fishing, shrimp, crab, oyster as well as Charter Boat and Charter Boat Interstate Commerce licenses will expire one year from the date of purchase. *Valid for recreational methods of taking fish south of U.S. Interstate 10. ***Residents 65 years of age or older are required to purchase a lifetime recreational saltwater fishing license for a small one-time fee of $5 plus $2.29 processing and agent fees.
