Application for Coastal Wetlands Permit by the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources Beneficial Use of Dredge Material Program |

The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources' Beneficial Use of Dredge Material Program has filed an application with the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources requesting permission to conduct regulated activities under the provision of the Coastal Wetlands Protection Law Act, Title 49, Chapter 27, Mississippi Code of 1972. The applicant is proposing to create approximately 800 acres of varying coastal habitat, primarily tidal marsh and intertidal habitat, adjacent to the eastern shore of Round Island in what is currently water bottoms by beneficially using dredged material in accordance with MS Code §49-27-61. The project is located adjacent to Round Island in the MS Sound in Jackson County, MS. The applicant is requesting a use plan change from a Preservation (P-2, seagrass) district to a Special Use (S-6, restoration) district for the project in accordance with Chapter VIII, Section 2, Part I.E.2.b.ii. A public hearing will be held on December 15, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. in the 1st floor Auditorium at the Bolton State office building at 1141 Bayview Avenue, Biloxi, MS 39530. The purpose of this hearing is to ensure that maximum information is received pertinent to the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources’ coastal wetlands permit application. |
