Southern Mississippi Planning and Development District, with funding from NOAA's Coastal Zone Management Program through a contract with the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources, developed this map as part of an inventory of public access sites in the three Mississippi coastal counties. Purpose of the inventory was two-fold: to update a previous inventory published in 2001 and to assess the condition of public access sites following Hurricane Katrina in 2005. This map offers a visual depiction of the location of these sites, photographs of the sites, available amenities, and a brief summary of the condition of the site when it was last visited. This is the Phase II version of the map, showing the status of rebuilding – some completed, some in progress, and some remaining as is. Further updates will be made from time to time as the project continues.
